Have you ever tried to settle a youngster down for a nap? They do not stop moving! It has been demonstrated by experts the world over that music is a powerful stimulus for both brain activity and for the body in general. Most people would never think of going to the gym or for a run without their music player (I am guilty of that!). Think about the music that accompanied Saturday morning cartoons that many of us grew up watching—Bugs Bunny, Elmer Fudd, Daffy Duck--they were all accompanied by the greatest music ever composed; classical music for the symphony orchestra. Once you hear it I challenge you to say that you are not affected by the melodies played by the flutes, clarinets, horns or strings and the rhythms of those melodies which can cause any human beings pulse rate to soar.
The Northumberland Orchestra & Choir is excited about the chance to stimulate our younger citizens with a program of music that will get their hearts and probably their feet racing. Marches, dance-music, spooky monster music, toe-tapping favourites will keep everyone wondering what is next. By introducing these works to our community’s youngsters, we hope to fan the spark of curiosity about good music. Who knows, we might even find a future musician or conductor in the audience that afternoon?
